Communication Skills

Self-Control

Emotions affect our ability to communicate. Many people have the ability to engage and inspire when they are confident and relaxed (e.g. when with close friends), but very few can be as effective when they feel nervous and stressed. Therefore, it is not always necessary to learn new skills to become a more effective communicator. By learning to manage our emotions, to be confident and relaxed at will, we can be as effective in stressful situations as we are with our friends.

There are numerous other benefits to emotional self-control. Relaxed, confident people are inherently more persuasive than nervous, unfonfident ones. Many communication skills are difficult to implement without a sound emotional base. And, of course, it is more fun and healthy being relaxed than being nervous.
